There is increasing pressure on IT departments to simplify and deliver more value to business with less. Enterprise architecture is the answer and key enabler for aligning an organization's information technology (IT) assets, people, business processes, and projects with its operating model.

However enterprise architecture organizations are facing challenges within and outside the IT community. Based on the ASUG EA Best Practices Survey conducted in 2009-2010, some of the top challenges are:

--Lack of business case and value proposition of EA to sell it to IT and business community
--Lack of architecture governance and execution
--Lack of business buy-in to support aligning business and IT strategy and architecture
--Lack of understanding and adoption of EA best practices

The ASUG EA Best Practice Survey was designed with the hypothesis that companies with mature EA practices that follow best practices will demonstrate:

--Higher % of innovation projects (business revenue growth and cost savings)
--Higher % of IT-projected value attained
--Less complex IT landscape with fewer interfaces and lower TCO
--Improved alignment of IT solutions and business strategy

Participating companies will have access to an aggregate analysis report that will provide insights into the adoption of best practices and their impact on business and IT performance. This will help managers build a business case for mature EA practice.

Key respondents of the EA Best Practices Survey will also have the opportunity to compare their performance, rank their own practices, and learn how other organizations manage EA.
