Catarina Ceitil – shERPa Project Director, Galp

Innovative Portuguese oil and gas company Galp recently built and launched a disruption-proof foundation for innovation, despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. The ERP upgrade project, titled “shERPa,” emerged from a technological need and rapidly defined its direction towards a digital transformation and processes optimization. It soon became a wider end-to-end project with a strategic drive that impacted both IT and business, allowing the company to standardize internal processes. The move to standardize led to lower costs, faster deployment times/scalability, and agile internationalization.

Many organizations have made or are making investments in mobile applications for maintenance and service technicians like SAP Asset Manager or SAP Work Manager. For oil and gas firms, the ability to determine the reliability and availability of engine-compressor and engine-generator units is a critical aspect of keeping operations running smoothly to avoid shutdowns, identify and repair failed or failing components, conduct preventive maintenance, and more. The engine reliability app is an advanced tracking and analysis system that helps accelerate this process while improving accuracy, using data from tracking unit shutdown and maintenance, as well as run/operating/oil consumption data. In this session, Energy Transfer and Deloitte will provide a detailed overview of the Engine Reliability App as well as a closer look at what this tool has already uncovered about the underlying issues driving reliability and availability issues in rotating equipment.

ConocoPhillips was experiencing challenges with testing data while using the SAP Production and Revenue Accounting (PRA) solution. The integrated nature of their business processes made it impossible to keep several full copies of production in the nonproduction landscape. This created a challenge around enabling functional analysts, testers, trainers, and consultants to access the data they need to support the production system. ConocoPhillips leveraged EPI-USE Labs’ Data Sync Manager™ (DSM) solution to overcome these challenges. DSM has allowed the organization to copy data on demand, reduce data volume, and refresh the test systems more frequently to bring back master data and a time-sliced subset of transactional data from production.

Vijay Ponnavolu – Senior Manager of Enterprise Applications, Love's Travel Stops

Love's Travel Stops has over 26,000 employees and provides services from truck maintenance to hospitality across the U.S. With a wide range of business operations, the team is tasked with building applications for stakeholders including internal employees, truckers, partners, and customers, and was facing challenges with speed and reuse amongst these tools. Love's had access to highly skilled developers with .NET, SAP, and Salesforce experience, but these groups operated in siloed environments that make it difficult to get user-friendly applications in market quickly.

In this session, Senior Manager of Enterprise Applications Vijay Ponnavolu will discuss how Mendix became the right layer with SAP and other platforms to deliver apps with better user interface and mobile solutions. Simultaneously, Mendix helped cut development timelines from months to weeks with it’s low-code and rapid application development.

By 2025, the global population is expected to exceed 8 billion people—and they all will need safe, reliable, and sustainable energy. Hydrocarbons will continue to play a dominate role in supporting the fourth industrial revolution for some time yet. Rapid growth of hydrocarbon alternatives, improved energy efficiency, and the adoption of more sustainable lifestyle choices will affect the supply and demand sides of the value chain.

The traditional value chain has many weak links, and for many companies it has broken. They need next-generation technologies to deliver the next-generation value chain. We call this new era “Oil and Gas Industry 4.0.”
