NuStar Energy had paper-based disconnected processes for asset inspections, work orders, and master data management, where data was captured on paper forms and later manually re-entered into SAP Plant Maintenance. With paper-based processes, NuStar Energy ran the risk of unexpected downtime, data loss, and safety and compliance issues.
To streamline operations, NuStar Energy decided to mobilize what had been paper-based, disconnected asset management processes, moving from reactive to preventive maintenance, and enhancing Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) compliance. NuStar Energy partnered with Unvired, a Houston-based SAP partner company, to deploy a mobile app for asset inspections, work orders, and master data management that works offline and integrates with SAP. RFID scanning, geolocation, HSE enhancements, and digital forms integration are the app’s highlights. The app was deployed on Windows 10 tablets.
