NuS­tar Ener­gy had paper-based dis­con­nect­ed process­es for asset inspec­tions, work orders, and mas­ter data man­age­ment, where data was cap­tured on paper forms and lat­er man­u­al­ly re-entered into SAP Plant Main­te­nance. With paper-based process­es, NuS­tar Ener­gy ran the risk of unex­pect­ed down­time, data loss, and safe­ty and com­pli­ance issues.

To stream­line oper­a­tions, NuS­tar Ener­gy decid­ed to mobi­lize what had been paper-based, dis­con­nect­ed asset man­age­ment process­es, mov­ing from reac­tive to pre­ven­tive main­te­nance, and enhanc­ing Health, Safe­ty, and Envi­ron­ment (HSE) com­pli­ance. NuS­tar Ener­gy part­nered with Unvired, a Hous­ton-based SAP part­ner com­pa­ny, to deploy a mobile app for asset inspec­tions, work orders, and mas­ter data man­age­ment that works offline and inte­grates with SAP. RFID scan­ning, geolo­ca­tion, HSE enhance­ments, and dig­i­tal forms inte­gra­tion are the app’s high­lights. The app was deployed on Win­dows 10 tablets.

In this ses­sion, NuS­tar Ener­gy will dis­cuss the busi­ness case for mobile EAM, as well as chal­lenges, find­ings, and results/​benefits.
