In the last year and a half, the pan­dem­ic forced com­pa­nies to adopt remote work in order to pro­tect their employ­ees’ health. Com­pa­ny lead­ers learned, often to their sur­prise, that embrac­ing a ​“work from home” busi­ness mod­el pro­vid­ed sig­nif­i­cant ben­e­fits. Now, although this tran­si­tion was not orig­i­nal­ly focused on improv­ing the employ­ee expe­ri­ence, many orga­ni­za­tions saw increased employ­ee engage­ment, pro­duc­tiv­i­ty, and a stronger sense of belong­ing. Of course, this shift had pros and cons. In-per­son meet­ings are still rec­og­nized as a crit­i­cal com­po­nent of effec­tive work, espe­cial­ly in the realm of fos­ter­ing col­lab­o­ra­tion and social inter­ac­tion. But employ­ees have wel­comed hav­ing more con­trol over their time, not hav­ing to com­mute every day, and hav­ing the flex­i­bil­i­ty to work togeth­er with­out phys­i­cal­ly being together.
