Over the last few years, Schlumberger has been focusing on consolidating its shared services across all functions into hubs strategically positioned across the globe. Its finance functionality saw numerous opportunities in FP&A, management reporting, business insights, and financial consolidation activities, and is now consolidated into financial hubs based in Bucharest, Romania, and Houston.

A critical component of this centralization was to ensure processes were lean and that non-productive time was drastically controlled, if not eliminated. Schlumberger quickly identified repetitive manual processes in its current system. It then decided to utilize an industry best-of-breed solution in digital robotic automation to help automate these repetitive tasks. To accomplish this, Schlumberger integrated the Automation Anywhere SAP solution—this helped the company build bots that automated manual-sequenced tasks in order to potentially eliminate non-productive time in the hubs. Its hub personnel can now focus on more value-added activities, strategies, and process improvements, rather than feel restricted to performing these manual, non-value-added tasks.
