Newport News Shipbuilding will share the latest chapters and lessons learned in its SAP S/4HANA initiatives with attendees at the 2023 ASUG Best Practices: SAP S/4HANA and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) conference.

The ASUG community first learned about the storied company’s S/4HANA activities in an interview with Kris Moturi, ERP Leader, Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, last year.

Moturi said he intends to provide conference session attendees with the business and technology context at Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS). NNS is the largest industrial employer in Virginia; the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy aircraft carriers; and the maker of U.S. Navy submarines and commercial customer ships. He will also emphasize project progress, current results, and next steps.

The session will include special attention and detail on ten lessons learned with recommendations for businesses considering or already underway in their SAP S/4HANA implementations and transformation journeys.

Moturi also plans to describe how essential ASUG and SAP resources are—and will continue to be—as NNS continues implementation and optimization work, especially without systems integrator support. At the May 2018 SAP Sapphire, Moturi said he grabbed, gained permission, and used an SAP S/4HANA project plan showcased during a session. He also said ASUG webinars, contacts with members, and other resources continue to supplement the manufacturer’s progress.

“I want the audience to know they are not alone,” Moturi said. “Wherever they are on the journey, whatever they need to do next, there is always help that they can get.”
