The topics: Molecular Biology 101, Birth of Biotechnology & the Sequencing Revolution, Pharmacogenomics & Precision Medicine, Clinical Diagnostics & Diagnostic Odyssey, The Upcoming Data Mega Storm
This discussion will introduce the fundamentals of molecular biology and discuss the evolution of biotechnology. With the advancement of DNA sequencing outpacing Moore's Law, DNA sequencing has moved from being in the province of nation states, to the AP biology high school laboratory. This is having a profound impact on how we detect and treat diseases (pharmacogenomics, precision medicine, and ending the diagnostic odyssey), and discover new drugs. The talk will conclude with some thoughts on the implications of the needs for biotechnology informatics.
