Man­u­fac­tur­ing Indus­tries are at heart of dig­i­tal trans­for­ma­tion. The heavy influ­ence of the Inter­net of Things changes cus­tomer demands on prod­ucts these com­pa­nies are offer­ing — par­tic­u­lar­ly High-tech and Indus­tri­al machin­ery and com­po­nent com­pa­nies are affect­ed. Indus­try bound­aries are dis­rupt­ing which leads tra­di­tion­al com­pa­nies to rethink the future of their busi­ness. Com­pa­nies from oth­er indus­tries or even new­com­ers are becom­ing com­peti­tors and chal­leng­ing their orig­i­nal business.
