The time to act is now and we need to reconsider our relationship with plastic, especially single use plastic. The concerns are valid with the associated pollution and disposal to landfills, streams, rivers, and the many ocean plastic garbage patches. This urgency leads to public policies to implement plastic taxes and enable extended producer responsibilities in post-consumer consumption. Companies are not acting fast enough with empty promises and lack luster results. With only about 9% of plastics being recycled, we need to rethink the linear model of: take – make – and waste. By closing the loop, and embracing a circular model, there is a need to recycle, reuse, reduce virgin materials, and design out waste and pollution. Let’s examine how SAP lead by example to enable a future with zero emissions, zero waste, and zero inequality. Our suite of sustainability solutions helps companies better understand, track, trace, measure, and report on their environmental, economic, and social impact. SAP solutions enable and accelerate their journey to measure and report against their goals as it relates to climate change, product carbon footprint, promote responsible design, eliminate waste, and pollution.
