What to Expect:

The City of Charlottesville has relied on SAP for more than two decades to support its municipal government and utility operations. Facing the approaching end of support for SAP ECC, the city embarked on a year-long transformation to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, while working with limited internal resources and preserving its existing processes, historical data, and chart of accounts.

Glen E. Pack, Finance Assistant Director for the City of Charlottesville, will share the decisions, challenges, and lessons that shaped the city’s journey.

Leave this session with practical considerations for planning an SAP S/4HANA transformation, managing costs and resources, preparing users for change, and building a stable foundation for future modernization.

In this ASUG Community Conversation, we will:

  • Understand how a small municipal government evaluated its options and selected SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition.
  • Learn practical lessons from data migration, SAP Fiori adoption, public-sector finance, payroll, and utility-related requirements.
  • Explore how Charlottesville planned for long-term costs, internal support, and future SAP expansion while operating with limited resources.
