How are utilities expanding use of their advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems? What does remote connect/disconnect look like and how do we utilize this data? This Think Tank includes discussion topics of interest to IT and business professionals who want to collaborate with a focus on AMI. Whether you are just starting to think about AMI or are already implementing it, utilities are encouraged to share current successes, lessons learned, and any issues along their journey.

The format for Monday, April 20 at 1:30 p.m. CT will include:

  1. AMI systems and how utilities are using RCD  (Remote Connect/Disconnect)

  2. How PSE decided to implement RCD for start/stop

  3. How have other utilities implemented RCD, are they planning to implement, and if they haven’t implemented, why?

  1. How do utilities anticipate expanding the use of the AMI systems—through RCD, interval data, load decisions?

  1. Are any of the rulings coming out of California changing how utilities are planning on using AMI data?

Insights:

  • Some roadblocks have presented themselves due to COVID-19 including increased customer call volume and the need for electronic applications in place of paper
  • Development is unique when moving from a master meter to smaller meters. AMI meters with RCD capabilities are installed to help transition
  • RCD affords PSE to respond to rapidly changing customer needs with higher rates of satisfaction
