In July 2024, IBM ful­ly trans­formed from SAP ECC on-premis­es to RISE with SAP S/4HANA. This pro­gram began with a Rapid Dis­cov­ery out­lin­ing the scope, road map, and busi­ness case. The pro­gram was com­plet­ed in 18 months using IBM’s Rapid Move Method­ol­o­gy and was imple­ment­ed by IBM Consulting. 

Key take­aways:

• IBM SAP migra­tion adopt­ed a hybrid approach, selec­tive­ly trans­fer­ring valu­able data from exist­ing sys­tems while inte­grat­ing brand-new func­tion­al­i­ties from SAP S/4HANA. This max­i­mized the val­ue of IBM’s SAP invest­ment while intro­duc­ing new, cut­ting-edge features. 
• The Rapid Move Method­ol­o­gy allowed a firm 18-month time­line, 150,000 users, 150 coun­tries, and glob­al big-bang deploy­ment to min­i­mize busi­ness disruption. 
• Reme­di­at­ing 30,000 cus­tom code objects and mod­ern­iz­ing 320,000 lines of code helped IBM sig­nif­i­cant­ly sim­pli­fy its IT envi­ron­ment. This stan­dard­iza­tion and reduc­tion in com­plex­i­ty have enhanced sys­tem per­for­mance and low­ered main­te­nance costs, cat­a­pult­ing IBM for­ward on the Clean Core journey.
