Predictive Maintenance and Service (PdMS) is about better understanding asset failure patterns and root causes, and fixing assets at the operator’s convenience before they fail, at the optimal point in their maintenance life cycle. This domain brings together large amounts of machine sensor data with business data like past maintenance records, maintenance plans, or warranty cases, plus other data such as weather or asset locations. SAP uses HANA to integrate the data and use statistics to predict future asset health and propose business activities. This applies in numerous use cases to the owner/operator of an asset (e.g. create optimized maintenance plan, improve spare part inventories, increase production yield and quality), but also the OEM of an asset (e.g. reduce warranty cases, offer new asset health services), and any asset service providers/dealers in between. Few companies employ Predictive Maintenance today, typically because integrating massive amounts of data and applying advanced statistics to it has been a major challenge. This presentation will introduce PdMS, show what about a twenty customers have done in this domain in an SAP customer co-innovation program, what benefits they achieved, how additional customers can engage with SAP, and the SAP roadmap.
