In November 2023, ENMAX Energy became the first Canadian utility to migrate its SAP billing applications via RISE with SAP. Additionally, the organization moved its customer relationship management (CRM) solution to a co-located Microsoft Azure-hosted solution.

Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, with operations across Alberta and Maine, ENMAX Corporation is a vertically integrated utility that operates across the energy value chain, including as a regulated wires provider, a competitive power generator, and an energy retailer. As a retailer, ENMAX Energy provides electricity and natural gas to approximately 725,000 residential and small commercial customers throughout Alberta and supports multiple municipalities with billing and customer care services.

ENMAX Energy partnered with SAP and a consultant to deliver this successful project—named Project ELEVATE, it represents the result of a year of careful planning and teamwork, across a team of 90 people spanning locations in Canada and India.

“The collaboration we witnessed across different areas of IT and ENMAX Energy sets an outstanding example for what we can achieve together,” says Tony Rizzuti, ENMAX Corporation’s Chief Information Officer. “This was a critical project for alignment with our strategic cloud foundation and in terms of future innovation and resiliency.”

The completion of this project has enabled ENMAX Energy to modernize its core billing platform, improve system resiliency, and streamline its application suite. Moreover, the digital transformation helped enhance the user experience through improved training software, better performance, and optimization of processes using SAP Fiori applications. The project also successfully reduced its data footprint by reducing storage by 80% through improved data management and significantly streamlined reporting.

“Customers are at the core of everything we do, and our people are the key to enabling an excellent experience for them,” adds Corry Poole, ENMAX Energy's Vice President of Retail Mass Market and Customer Experience. “I’m so proud of what was accomplished with this initiative.”
